Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly Dexter Model 10 20 Disc - T4749501042

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a brief look at this replacement master cylinder assembly. This is going to replace the master cylinder assembly for your Dexter Model 10 or Model 20 brake actuators, and this is going to work with disc brake applications only. And for drum brake applications, I am including our item number for the master cylinder assembly that will work for drum brake applications. You can just take that item number and put it in a search field of our website, and it will take you to that master cylinder assembly. And this includes the master cylinder, obviously, and everything needed to install in your actuator. You have your brass connector, and then you have your right hand cylinder mounting brackets and left hand cylinder mounting brackets.

And then you're going to get two of the 3/8 of an inch hex bolts, and then two 3/8 of an inch hex nuts with two 3/8 of an inch lock washers. And then of course the filler cap here. And on our cap it says here use only DOT type 3 brake fluid, just so you're aware of that. And then the mounting holes, center to center, we are sitting right at 4 and 3/4 inches center to center. Let me line that up there for you a little bit better.

There you go. 4 and 3/4 inches on those mounting holes center to center. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me.

Always an easy transaction

I recently purchased a master cylinder assy for my boat trailer. After receiving the part I noticed there was not a brass adapter fitting in the back of the master cylinder as shown in the picture and clearly stated in the product description that this part was included. I removed the brass brake line fitting from the old part but it was the wrong size. I called etrailer and spoke to Carol. It was a weekend so I was surprised someone answered the phone. Bottom line is Carol took care of me and within a few days the part showed up and the master cylinder is now alive and well where it needs to be....on my trailer. Thanks Carol....GREAT JOB

by:

Exact fit. Works beautifully as it should. Brand new is a wonderful thing on an old crusty trailer. Great price...speedy shipping....can you ask for more?
Highly recommended. Thanks etrailer

After a year gone by everything works fine as it supposed to.Iam very happy with my trailer.Thank you etrailer

by:

As always the part came in a reasonably short time "FREE SHIPPING" and again as always just what I needed, I have bought just the master cylinder in the past from my local trailer parts dealer and it didn't come with a new boot or a new cap...etc. and by the time I removed, cleaned and transferred the spring assembly and mounting brackets I had way to much time invested in my project. Today it took not even 5 min to install this part to my hitch and it fit perfect. I truly believe that etrailer.com is the only way to go for any of your trailer needs.

Did a complete rebuild of trailer brakes that were just blocks of rust. Couldn’t have done it without the etrailer videos and OEM replacement parts. The Titan actuator fit perfectly, works great.

by:

Thank you to all at e-trailer and thank you for the master cylinder I ordered and a nice thank you to Wayne for calling back a message to me. I used a reverse bleeder and pushed the fluid from the calipers and got rid of the dirty fluid just before master then blead the master and soon I had four wheels braking nicely.
Thanks to all of you for making our vacation safer towing the boat.

Repalcement Part for a Titan model 20. Exactly as advertised

It was a replacement brake cylinder. Installed easily. Brakes now work as good as new. There have been no issues.

by:

Wow, the packaging was the worst I have ever seen... Were they trying to be funny? A master cylinder just bouncing around in a box with the 2 grease seals, nothing protected with packaging, just rattling around in there. Lucky for me the parts in the box, and poking through the side of the box when it arriver were all ok. Glad I was in a good mood, I found it funny this time.

by:

The product pictured matched my old unit exactly. Received item in a reasonable time. Was able to install the new unit with no problems. I need to complete reworking the rest of the brake system before I can test but so far everything looks great.

by:

Delivered on time, should pack better, but works perfect

by:

  • How to Modify Drum Brake Actuator Coupler for Use with Disc Brakes
Brake fluid pressure requirements for disc and drum brakes are too different to allow use of a disc actuator on drum brakes. Disc brakes typically need 1500-psi while drums need about 1000-psi. Brake proportioning valves do exist but we do not sell them. From a safety standpoint we do not like to recommend using a device like that. We always recommend using the appropriate actuator for the type of brakes on the trailer. Some actuators can take either drum-brake-pressure master cylinders...

  • Replacement Master Cylinder For Tandem Axle Boat trailer With 10,000 Lb Capacity
To replace the master cylinder on your tandem boat trailer you will need to know a couple of things. Since there can be no guarantee of a fit you will need to let me know the make of the master cylinder you currently have. Also, are you using disc or drum brakes on you trailer. You would not want to use a disc brake master cylinder with drum brakes because the psi rating is much higher for disc brakes. Using it on drum brakes can lead to damage to the wheel cylinders and very aggressive...

  • Can Drum Brake Actuator Be Used Temporarily on Trailer with Disc Brakes
The problem with using a drum brake actuator with disc brakes is that it's not going to supply enough pressure to fully engage the assemblies. Because of this your braking power is going to be greatly reduced with your current setup. With a tandem axle trailer this could cause some issues,...
