Video Transcript for Optronics Backup and Utility Trailer Lights 2-Wire Pigtail Installation

Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Optronics two prong pigtail. Now this is gonna be for a reverse light function in a LED light here. Now, this is normally how you plug-in to get your reverse signal by tying into your reverse light wire. Now, the back of these actually have a two prong design and getting normal, but your pin connectors is kind of tricky to get those in place and that eliminates it.

It makes it plug and play. Once we attach our wires. So here we have our old light installed and we've upgraded our trailer to a seven pole, and that's gonna allow us to have that reverse light function. Well, just putting the taillights in place isn't gonna give us that function if we need to tie into it. So here we have our standard three prong floor, our turn signal, brake lights and running lights.

But for your reverse light signal there's gonna be this two prong. So to get that to work, we're gonna use our pigtail to plug in and we'll tie those wires in. And one of the first things you're gonna want to do is determine which wire has your reverse light function and have that routed down to pretty close around the taillight. We're then going to take our pigtail here and you're gonna see there's two wires. The red which is gonna tie into that wire and then just a white with a ring terminal for our ground.

So I'll go ahead and make our cut. And then we're just gonna strip this back a little bit. And the red's pre-stripped slightly, but I'm gonna go ahead and just get a little bit more on there. And then using a butt connector, we'll go ahead and get these crimped together. Now here, we're putting this in an enclosed trailer and all this wiring lives inside the trailer.

So it shouldn't be exposed to the elements. So if you're throwing reverse lights on a normal utility trailer or something that is exposed to the elements, I highly recommend picking up some heat shrink butt connectors which we have here at etrailer. And that way, once it's crimped down you can heat shrink that. And it's gonna seal that up making sure that water doesn't get in there. Now, once you've made your connections just give it a slight tug, just to make sure that it's actually connected properly. From here, we're gonna take our ring terminal and I'm gonna take a self-tapping screw, it's not included with the light, but you can pick those up here at etrailer or a local hardware store or if you have some lying around the garage and we're just gonna find a solid metal piece which we have a lot of our framework around here. So finding a spot shouldn't be too terribly hard. So just make sure that your plug is gonna be able to reach that reverse light signal there. And then once you have that determined you can go ahead and get your self tapping screw in place and anywhere that's solid metal that attaches to the frame is gonna be a great option. So now we have that mounted up. All I need to do is unplug our old light. Get our new one with that reverse light function in and plug it in. So there's our standard light there. And then our reverse here. It's just gonna plug in. You can see there's little slots here so it's gonna make it nice and easy to get this in place and get it tight. So you can see this little upswing here is gonna face towards the middle there. And once we have those bullet connectors lined up we can go ahead and press this in. It does take a little bit of pressure to get these to seat but it's gonna hold it in place very well. There we go. You're gonna want to hear that nice pop there. So you know that it's sealed and then all we have to do is put our light back in place and then test to make sure it's working. So now you can see we've gone ahead and put our vehicle in reverse. And our reverse signal is now working because we now have that connector. So pretty easy, simple installation to make your reverse lights work. Now, all that's left to do is go back, kind of clean up some of your wires with some zip ties get your panel back in place and then you're ready to start using your trailer with the reverse light function..

The products I received were of good quality, however the shipping method was horrible. Lights were just thrown in a box all together with nothing protecting them. Now I have new lights that look very old because of the scratches all over them. This is my first bad experience with etrailer, hopefully the last.

I can understand your disappointment with the lights. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Everything is good

by:

Just what I wanted. They appear to be well made. I’m putting backup lights on my travel trailer. I had to back into black a black hole campsite last year and they’ve been on my bucket list of things to add ever since.

by:

Items arrived as described. Good quality, price and fast delivery made this purchase an overall great deal. The lights and the cables I haven’t test them, waiting for my truck replacement bumper to arrive in September and have the body shop install them for me. I will update my review, but for now I recommend this products and the seller.

So far so good, they are working as expected and I may have to replace a few on the other side of the trailer with the same items.

by:

Fast delivery. Exactly what I needed.

I ordered the STL101RB Trailer Tail Light - Stop, Tail, Turn, Backup - LED to replace the standard tail lights on my Yamah Drive G19 golf cart. They replaced to stock ones perfectly as a neat way to add a backup lights for a custom feature. The backups led are actuated by the reverse switch on the dash.

It should be noted that the ground terminal on the two wire pigtail connection is not wired internally to the backup LEDs. They rely on the ground supplied by the three wire pigtail. Not a big deal, but worth noting. It throws a curve when bench testing.

These lamps add a nice custom touch!

by:

I purchased these Submersible LED bulbs for my boat trailer for two reasons. The first is so road traffic is aware of my intentions of backing up and the second is to make it easier to back my trailer into my driveway at night. The only thing that I find disappointing about this product, is that the wires are not sealed. You have to plug a pigtail in to power the bulb. Although they say it is watertight, I still plan on sealing the plug with some marine grade silicone sealant. Otherwise I am very satisfied with the way these bulbs light up my path of travel.

by:

I have been a heavy equipment mechanic for over 35 years. I mounted the stop , turn and tail LED lights along with the clear utility LED lights in the headache rack on my new service truck. Order was fulfilled quickly and completely, and wonderful correspondence all the way to shipment to my shop. All parts fit properly and I'm well pleased with the performance . One thing that stands out about the stop , turn and tail lights is that the tail light is perfectly lit (not too bright) so that when the turn signal is activated its super bright. This way there is a significant difference. Too many times I've seen LED lights where the tail light looks like the turn signal as far as brightness. The utility lights are far more bright than the reverse lights ,most likely due to DOT regulations. I would recommend using the utility light for cargo space.

by:

Excellent products and service. I will be inquiring soon on a set of 7000lb axles with springs and all hanger hardware.

I called and spoke with Lisa D for a special order product that E-trailer needed to order directly from the manufacturer and have it added to their website, and Lisa D kept me updated every step of the way. She got the products order and shipped with a very quick turn around time, which was great b/c I couldn't find any company that could assist me with ordering the lights that i wanted. Very pleased with E-Trailer and Lisa D.

by:

I have been ordering lights for multiple trailers over the past few weeks. All of the lights that I have ordered have been made by one company, yet they have different connectors. WHY WHY WHY??? Get it together.... please ?!? Or please explain to me why you would put male bullet connectors on some lights and female bullet connectors on other lights. I should have one set of connectors that I have to buy to make connectivity... now you are forcing me... and the customers that by from my to do the same.

by:

Great product. I bought backup lights and t plan on replacing my taillights as well. Have plans on replacing my interior lights to LED as well.

Staff was very helpful and they followed up

by:

I'm very happy with the professional, and helpful assistance when ordering to get the exact items needed and the products were perfect in fit and operation. etrailer will now be my go to place and also the place where I refer my friends.

by:

Installed in a ranch hand bumper. Used as backup lights. Works great.

by:

Worked great to replace lights not working on my trailer.

as expected

by:

What a easy repair! I received back up light and replacement pigtail and finished with the installment within thirty minutes. etrailer service and products are excellent and I will not hesitate to repeat business with these guys. Their product description and installment instruction is second to none. In addition, you can not beat the price! When I get ready to upgrade to LED I will look to etrailer first to make my purchase.

by:

Not much to review, these items are exactly what they were described as, and it made installing my new trailer lights extremely easy. For the price, it's 100% worth it as a purchase companion for said tail lights!

by:

Exactly as advertised. They look good. Haven’t tried yet!

by:

Website suggested that I would need these, glad that I ordered them. They worked great. I ran into a clearance issue and ended up needing the elbow low profile plug end instead. However, I didn't know that was the case until after I cut the hole into the fiberglass and test fit the light.

by:

It's a harness. Not much to say. It works. Seems to be manufactured sturdy enough. Time will tell, but it is probably made with super cheap wire that will oxidize (turn black) with age. Such a short piece of wire would ad minimal cost to production and I would gladly pay an extra dollar to get high strand count oxygen free copper.

by:

Great service! Parts ordered arrived in record time, order was complete, and no problems. I had ordered same parts from another supplier, waited 5 weeks and when order arrived it only had one light not two as were ordered. Still having issues trying to get that order resolved. You guys make it easy, will get more orders from me as well as letting my friends know where to order from. Thanks

The Backup Lights work very well. Thank s.

  • Submersible Reverse Light and 7-Way Kit for Boat Trailer with 4-Way
For a submersible reverse light we have the GloLight # UCL178RFP2B which would work great on a boat trailer. You'll need the pigtail harness part # A45CB which the white wire would get grounded to the boat trailer frame and the red wire to the reverse light circuit of the trailer. We have a great kit for adapting your trailer 4-way to a 7-way too with the part # HS381-9000 which would be the easiest way to install the 7-way and wire in the reverse lights.

The RV Porch and Utility Light, # RVPL3C, would definitely be able to handle normal highway speeds, if mounted correctly, but a car wash might be a different story. These lights were designed for RVs and they are not normally ran through car washes.
