Friction-style sway control system uses a telescoping bar with friction pads to fight trailer sway. Adjustable tension lets you set the right amount of resistance for your setup. Attaches to your trailer and weight distribution system or ball mount.

Features:

  • Friction-style sway control effectively fights trailer sway after it begins
    • Reduces side-to-side movement caused by winds, passing traffic, curving roads, or sudden maneuvers
  • Bar unit houses the sway control mechanism
    • Interior arm telescopes in and out as your trailer moves
    • Friction pads rub against each other to create resistance
  • Adjustable tension lets you set the perfect amount of control and resistance
    • Tension-adjustment screw easily turns in 1/4" increments to fine-tune tension
    • Built-in lever lets you disengage the system to completely release tension
  • Trailer-mounted ball lets you connect the bar unit to your trailer frame
    • May be mounted to either side of your trailer
    • Bolt-on installation with included self-tapping screws
  • 1-1/4" Hitch ball mounts on weight distribution system head to provide attachment point for sway control unit
    • Included adapter bracket can be welded to system head if there is no ball mount platform
  • Easy to remove - simply unclip the bar unit from each attachment ball using the included safety clips
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Note: Not for use on trailers with surge brakes. It is recommended that you remove this sway control unit before backing up/reversing and before towing in slippery conditions such as on wet, icy, gravel, or snow-covered roads.

When installing this sway control system, follow the included instructions and measure 24" straight back from the center of the coupler along the frame of the trailer to determine the location of the spacer plate and trailer-mounted attachment ball. To achieve proper alignment, the spacer plate may not be necessary in every application.

Curt Sway Control on Trailer Frame

One friction-style sway control can be used for trailers with up to 6,000-lb GTW. If your trailer's GTW is between 6,000 lbs and 10,000 lbs, you will need 2 sway-control units, 1 on either side of the trailer. You will also want to use 2 units if your trailer is 26' or longer.

Simple effective, well made. These are noisy on turns, similar to most friction sway control devices.

Sam

After about 2000 miles, still working well and noisy

by:

I towed my trailer across country using this system and it worked great.

by:

The sway control kit I ordered went on the receiver of my travel trailer easily and fits well. I tested the turn radius to see how sharp of a turn it would make without "hitting" and it performed perfectly. I haven't had the chance to take it on the road yet but don't anticipate any problems.

Im so glad I ordered the sway control kit. Ive used it several times when pulling my travel trailer and it has made all the difference.

by:

I've been running a single sway bar for the last couple years on our 2500 and it was working well.

We recently downsized to an F150 and needed the second sway control. I'm certain it's going to help emencely.

Daniel

Its been a year. We went from a single to a dual friction control. Weve been out on 6 trips since and it works as it should. I didnt think running dual plates would be so much better but it really was worth the investment.

@Daniel Glad to hear that! We typically recommend using two frictions sway units on trailers that are longer than 26 feet.

Very well made but I have not gotten installed yet

Product works fine no issues

by:

This product made a huge difference in the sway problem I had with my travel trailer. Large trucks and/or cross winds were very scary. I would not recommend towing a large trailer without sway control.

by:

Works great.

by:

The sway bar works well. The retaining clip sometimes fall out of the tow vehicle end which could be a problem. I use 2 clips at that end.

by:

Install was simple other than they dont send self tapping screws so you will need to drill holes. Shipping was in a timely manner.

by:

This is a replacement for one i didn't hook up and left it on the trunk of the trailer and never found it after I got home....lol
This one was a direct replacement for my 06 model and it works great.
As usual etrailer had what I needed and at a good price!

Happy to report that after using this for a year it still works like new. Im very happy with the product

by:

Package arrived in timely fashion. Parts missing from package. Looked like a returned item due to shipping carton being retaped haphazardly. Waiting for missing parts

by:

The "anti-sway bar" as I call it works as advertised. I've used this product for several decades on several applications including both the towed, and towing vehicles. It can make the difference in your comfort level on windy days. A note of caution: on some applications you'll need to remove it before backing up or you run the risk of breaking the ball.

by:

took the sway right out of my custom tag along trailer!

by:

I like these sway controls. I have several different trailers with significantly different side profiles. These controls allow me to fine tune the sway to the different applications.
Very nice finish and they work well

by:

Use my Camper primarily for work when I'm out of town so I can have a bit of home away from home. Hills, wind, off-road, this makes a substantial difference in stability and therefore, safety. Highly recommend this.

by:

This product is well made, preforms well and is easy to adjust. The brake pad shows very little ware after 5,000 miles. The paint finish appears to hold up well and is very durable.

by:

Works just like it is supposed to, like all of the products I have ordered from eTrailer in the past.

by:

the shipping was fast but the packaging sucked, it was all in one box and the brake controller and wire package was smashed from the 100lb weight distribution kit. I'll return the brake controller if it dose not work.

by:

This is my first time purchasing from etrailer and I have to say the experience couldn't have been better. I purchased this sway bar and other items for my new tow vehicle. After trying to piece together everything I needed for towing on a couple of other websites, and not having much luck, I went to etrailer. I was able to find everything I needed, very detailed product information, easy to navigate website, quick shipping, GREAT communication from customer service, and a price that was equal to or better than the other websites. Hands down a happy etrailer customer!

No problem with the sway bar, BUT the Curt ball mount with sway bar mount looks like it has twisted. I only pull a Casita travel trailer 3500lbs behind my half ton pickup and havent put any unusual stress on it. Kind of disappointed...

Etrailer Expert

Rachael H.

If it has twisted then I would advise discontinuing using it. As called out in the instructions if this sway control bar or any of the components come into contact with the trailer while in a jack knife position it is recommended to remove the sway control bar while backing up.

by:

Received my anti-sway bar to add to my weight distribution hitch in less than a week. Fastest service I’ve ever had. Installed it and it works great! I could only go 57 mph before and now can keep up with everyone else on the freeway! etrailer is a great place to get anything trailer related. Have always had great service and will buy from them again. 5 stars

Works like a dream! Easy to use and install. I would recommend this to anyone looking for one.

by:

Added this sway bar as a second one for my ToyHauler. With all the weight in the back of the trailer I needed a second. Since this brand was currently on my trailer and also on a second trailer I went with the tried and true. With the second sway bar I can pull my ToyHauler at 80 MPH next to tractor trailers and not get any after sway, it pulls straight. I highly recommend this sway bar, it only took me 30 minutes to install, most of that time was getting the measurements correct.

Preston H.

6/3/2020

I am using this with the sway bar on my weight distribution hitch. Being a toy Hauler most of my weight is in the back, I have no problems towing no sway, no bounce very satisfied

by:

Exactly what I needed, for a great price, with clear installation instructions and video

by:

Excellent service all the way around! Not my first time with ETrailer either, and everytime has been a very good experience. This package arrived a day earlier than stated. the box was strong, undamaged, and packed vey well.

by:

Good price compared to other similar products. Easy site to use. Have purchased several products from etrailer and every purchase was easy, quick delivery, and exactly what was ordered.

by:

Fastest Shipping ever, even during the Christmas Rush. Everything was just as described and came fast and packed very well! Thanks Etrailer

  • Availability Of a Trailer Friction Sway System Which Is Made In The USA
Currently the Friction Sway Control Bars we carry from Curt # 17200 and Reese # 83660 are manufactured overseas. You would have to go with a weight distribution hitch system like the Equal-i-zer to have a friction system made in the USA with sway control. You will need to order the system based on the tongue weight and total loaded trailer weight. I have included a list of these systems below. 200-600lbs Tongue Weight, Trailer Up to 6,000lbs # EQ37060ET 600-1,000lbs Tongue Weight, Trailer...

Thank you for pointing out this error, I was able to verify with the owners manual for your 2019 Audi Q7 you should never use a weight distribution hitch and removed the old question. The best way for you to help reduce/prevent sway is by using a Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000. This will require your trailer to have electric brakes as it uses the brakes independently to prevent sway from occurring. If you have a smaller trailer which does not have electric brakes the Friction...

  • Will Installation of Curt Friction Sway Control System # 17200 Affect Strength of Trailer Tongue
To install the Curt Friction Style Sway Control System, part # 17200, to your trailer will require drilling holes in the trailer frame. Drilling the few holes that are needed in the side of the tongue for installation of the sway control will not weaken the trailer tongue. I am including a link to the instructions on the friction sway control system. I would recommend to check with the trailer manufacturer to determine if the drilling of the holes in the frame will void any warranty.

  • Can Weight Distribution be Used with a Draw-Tite 75148 on a 2007 Murano
The Draw-Tite # 75148 is designed for standard towing only and cannot be used with weight distribution, unfortunately. With that being said, if you can find a camper with a lighter tongue weight, you would be fine to tow with a standard ball mount. If you do end up going with a lighter camper, you can add on the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003 and Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 for a sway control option if needed. • Can 2009 Ford F350 With 9300lb Tow Capacity Safely Pull 8100 lb Travel Trailer
Towing capacity, payload and tongue weight are not the same, but are closely related. Towing capacity is pretty self explanatory. It's the maximum trailer weight a vehicle can pull. This can vary according to how the truck is configured and equipped. Payload is the amount of cargo a truck can carry, typically in the bed of the truck. The truck's payload will be reduced by the amount of tongue weight applied by the trailer, as you suspected but the tongue weight won't be deducted from...

  • Would A Friction Sway Control Kit Be Needed With A Curt MV Weight Distribution Hitch
You'll typically have more sway if the weight of the trailer is on the heavier end of your truck's towing capacity, but there are a lot of other factors that can contribute to trailer sway. If you're Ram hasn't had any sway issues so far then you wouldn't be required to add in more friction sway control, but you certainly still can to help prevent a sway event from happening in the future. The reason you cannot back up with friction sway control like the Curt # 17200 installed on your travel trailer with a single 3500lb axle is when turning sharply the bar will be extended or compressed to far which can cause the mounting bracket on the trailer frame to be damaged, or can bend the bar rendering it unusable.
