Can Weight Distribution Be Used on an Aluminum Car Hauler Trailer
Question:
I am purchasing a used Forest River 20foot car trailer/hauler. 3500 lbs. axles, 7000 GVW. It has an aluminum frame and an aluminum diamond plate tool box mounted on the tongue. What type of load distributing hitch will work? Thanks.

You should not have any issues using weight distribution with your aluminum trailer, but you will want to check with the trailer manufacturer to be certain. My contact at Reese has stated that as long as the trailer manufacturer says it's ok then their systems would work well on aluminum trailers.
Since you have a tool box above the frame on your trailer you will need to use bolt on brackets, part # RP58305 since you do not have clearance above the frame for the standard chain hangers.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.
Once you determine your tongue weight check out the link I attached to the right that will take you to a page that has all of the WD systems we carry. Select your tongue weight from the filters on the left and the correct kits for your application will be listed.
