Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness and Trailer Brake Controller for a 2006 Ford E250 Van
Question:
I have 2006 E250 van. I want to install a 7 blade connector. Im not sure if the van came equipped with factory tow wiring. I did find a capped 4 pin connector at the rear on the frame rail. 4 wires black,yellow,green and looks like brown w/white stripe. Is this factory tow wiring? If so, is this the correct harness to use? I want install an electric brake system as well. The van is 8600 GVW

What it seems to me is you have a 4 pin connector at the rear of your 2006 Ford E-250 Van. What you will need is universal installation kit for trailer brake controller # ETBC7. It Includes everything necessary for converting your 4-way connector to a 7-way connector in order to use a brake controller. The 7-Way and 4-Way Multi-Plug Connector # 74682 you referenced won't work because the 7-Way is for vehicles with the factory 7-way tow package. Also, extra wire part # 10-2-1 will be convenient when installing a brake controller on longer vehicles. See video on the 2004 Ford Van I have included.
I highly recommend using dielectric grease at your wiring connection points to help prevent corrosion from water exposure. Part # 11755. See 2013 Ford Van video at the 2:18 mark.
The proportional brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. It has a customizable LCD display and automatically adjusts your trailer brakes based on the deceleration of your 2006 Ford E-250 Van. The wiring adapter you will use with the Prodigy P3 is part # 3035-P. It will allow you to install the brake controller quickly and easily. See the Ford E-450 video at the 5:00 mark.
