Does Brake Controller Warning on Ford Vehicles Apply to Plug and Play Wiring Harness
Question:
I recently purchased a Prodigy P3 brake controller with the harness to tie into the factory outlet for the brake controller on my 2004 Ford Excursion. In the package of the brake controller was a warning about Ford wiring becoming a ground when not in use and not to use the manual brake because it could fry the controller. Since I used the harness I purchased from this site, does that mean that this isnt a problem for me or do I still have to go in and change some wiring? Thanks for your assistance.

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and he said the brake switch warning (see image at right) that comes with your Tekonsha and Draw-Tite brake controllers refers to hard-wiring a brake control directly to the brake light switch. The warning is due to the cruise circuit acting like the Brake light circuit, but going direct to ground with the brake released.
Since you are using a factory plug and a plug and play harness and not cutting and splicing any wiring this warning does not apply to your application.
