Weight Distribution System for Venture Sonic 170 Travel Trailer Towed by 2008 Toyota 4 Runner

Question:

Best Weight Distribution/Sway Assembly for 2008 Toyota 4-Runner 6 Cyl and Venture Sonic 170 Trailer with Varying Tongue Weights: Tow vehicle is a 2008 Toyota 4-Runner 6-Cyl with towing capacity of 5,000 lbs/500 lbs max tongue weight. Trailer under consideration is a Venture Sonic 170 rated with 2,995 lbs UVW, hitch weight 325 lbs, 4,500 lbs GVWR. What recommendation would you suggest for a weight distribution/sway assembly for varying tongue weights? I’m also intrigue with the Blue OX SwayPro WD w/sway control assembly for the easy adjustment and allowance to backing up without disassembly.

To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the SUV or truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures comprise the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.

You'll need to figure out what the tongue weight would be AT THE HEAVIEST. If that weight is below 550 lbs, the # BXW0550 would be a good choice. If the worst-case-scenario tongue weight is heavier than 550 lbs but less than 750 lbs, use the # BXW0750 Sway Pro.

Both systems include the weight distributing shank, but the trailer ball is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

I would still recommend removing the spring bars if you're backing the trailer at an extreme angle.
