Raising the Height of a 5th Wheel Trailer to Tow Level

Question:

I have a 22 ft. Nomad 5th wheel camper trailer. Tandem axle. Axles are about 21/4 inch dia. I need to raise the camper 4 inches to give adequate clearance for my pickup bed. What would you recommend?

The first thing you will want to try is adjusting the height of the 5th wheel trailer hitch and/or the height of the pin box on the trailer. Both should be able to be adjusted up or down as needed to tow the trailer level.

If that doesn't do it then raising the height of the trailer is an option. If you have round axles then they are likely 2-3/8 inches in diameter and so you would use over/under conversion kit # K71-384-00.

If it is 2-1/4 then you would have to use taller hangers instead of the conversion kit. The old hangers would have to be cut off and the taller ones welded on by a qualified professional. I have included a link to the right to the hanger options for double eye springs for you.

Please note that raising the height of the trailer will also raise its center of gravity and make the trailer more susceptible to sway.
