Noise from Newly Installed Electric Brake Magnets and Drums on Travel Trailer

Question:

Recently installed new drums, magnets and bearings on the Dexter hub on my travel trailer. Was wondering if the magnet should be slightly noisy as they rub on the drums?

Thank you for your recent purchase from etrailer of brake magnets and hub/drum assemblies.

New components will often result in a different sound than what we are accustomed to but there are a few things you can check. If you are referring to any humming type of sound from the magnets this is normal.

If the brakes otherwise operate properly and you are hearing scraping sounds this may simply be due to the new parts needing either some break-in or adjustment. If the brakes are making noise only when they are applied you can check their adjustment. You can drive the trailer for a while and see if the new parts settle in at all. If the noise is present even when the brakes are not applied then you'll want to double-check your magnet installation to ensure the magnets and springs are mounted properly.

I have also included a link to our trailer maintenance schedule help article for additional info.
