Recommended Towing Package for 2010 Subaru Legacy

Question:

Hi, please help me a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and trailer brake controller to set up my 2010 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Ltd sedan to tow: primarily an Aliner camper uses 7-way connector, and occassionally a U-haul trailer I think these use 4-way connectors. My hitch preference is a class 2 CURT. My wiring preference is plug-and-play my trailer brake controller is a Prodigy RF. I will also need a draw bar/2inch hitch ball. Please provide all part numbers including any options. Thanks!

For a Class III trailer hitch by Curt that is a custom fit for your Subaru Legacy sedan, you will want the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13158.

To complete your towing setup, you will also need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 56091. I have included installation instructions and a installation video of this harness on a 2011 Subaru Legacy for you to check out. Then you will need the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, to complete the installation of the 7-Way connector for towing a trailer with electric brakes. I have included the detailed installation instructions.

For the brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2 brake controller # 90885. The P2 is very easy to use, which helps make it our best selling controller. I have included a video review of the P2 and a couple of articles that answer frequently asked questions about brake controllers.

You will also want the Ball Mount Kit for 2-inch Hitches # 989900. This kit includes everything needed to tow multiple trailers, even of different heights.

Be sure to consult the vehicle owner's manual for its towing capacities and if it is lower than the hitch you will always go by the lower rating. I have included some links to helpful FAQ articles on hitches and towing for you.
