Can Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts Be Installed with Rear Jack Mounts in the Way

Question:

I would like to purchase Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts to re-enforce my travel trailer bumper, but it doesnt look like it will fit because of the way my bumper is welded to the frame. I have pictures I would be happy to send, if that would help you to see. Id like to find a soultion to strengthen my bumper so I can hang a bike rack on it.

Hey Pat, thanks for reaching out and the photos!

The Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts Standard RV Bumper Support Brackets # MO22FR looks like it will work on your application, but you'll need to more your rear jacks around to make more room, and cut off the welds to allow the brackets to fit.

Aside from that you can go with a whole new bumper or have a welder reinforce your current bumper.

If you don't already have a hitch receiver on your trailer then I recommend checking out the etrailer RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # e38HR which clamps around a 4" square bumper and gives you the 2" receiver for a bike rack.

Then for a bike rack you need to make sure that the one you use has been rated for trailer use. I really like the Yakima LongHaul # Y02476 because it gives you the ability to carry 4 bikes and is rated for use on a bumper hitch receiver.

Thanks Jon. I have that exact bumper hitch receiver I purchased from etrailer. My bike rack is trailer rated, so I'm in good shape there. I will look at moving the rear jacks and installing the standard RV bumper support. Thanks for your help.
