Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2004 Dodge Dakota

Question:

I recently received a trailer wiring kit # 42190. It seems that I may have misinterpreted what was included in the kit. Which is completely my issue. I was wondering if there is another wiring kit which attaches to this kit to wire directly into the wiring harness of my 2004 dodge dakota without splicing? I guess I would also like to find a mounting bracket for this 7 wire connector. If available.

Thank you for your recent order. The part you purchased, Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190, is intended as a direct plug-in replacement for a factory-installed 7-way trailer connector. This plugs in directly with no cutting or splicing required to an OEM harness on vehicles equipped with the factory tow package and mounts without a bracket using included hardware.

If your Dakota does not have the connector to mate with the plug on this harness it may be that it does not have the necessary tow package wiring.

If you can advise the nature of the harness on the vehicle (or better still send a photo) we can determine what you will need to have a functioning 7-way trailer connector with lighting, 12V power and trailer brake signals.
