Can a Bias Ply Trailer Tire be Used in Place of a Radial Trailer Tire  

Question:

on my trailer rv i had st205/75r14 tires the tire place repace them with a cheeper tire st205/75D14 tire is this going to be ok and safe

The R in the original tire size indicates a radial tire. The D in the new tire size indicates it is a bias ply tire. Radial tires usually cost more than bias ply tires but you can use either one provided that it is the right size, which in this case it is, and the capacity is enough for the gross trailer weight. So yest, it is safe.

Radial tires do track better and run cooler than bias ply tires. But bias ply tires are better for rough terrain. You just want to make sure that all of the tires are the same construction type, either all radials or all bias ply. I have included a link to our help article on trailer tires for you to view.
