Can Curt C59496 be Connected to Power Outlet at Back of a 1999 Lexus RX-300
Question:
I have a 12v cigarette light plug in the back of my lexus next to the driver side tail light. Would I be able to tap the power wire into this circuit rather than pull the wire all the way to the front of the vehicle and connect directly to battery?

Expert Reply:
You will not want to connect the power wire for the wiring harness # C59496, to anything other than the battery. The reasons for this are:
The kit has not been tested or rated for anything other than a connection to the battery.
And connecting it to an alternate power source eliminates that level of circuit protection so the vehicle wiring is not as isolated from the trailer wiring as it would be with the battery connection.
Connecting the power wire in any other location would also void the harness warranty. Routing the power wire to the vehicle battery is not all that difficult it just takes longer for the complete installation. I have included a link to an article with tips on routing the power wire for you.
