Tri-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 20 Inch Wheels

Question:

I just bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland edition that comes with 20 inch wheels. I mention the wheels for height. Factory puts the Jeeps towing at 7200 lbs. with the Hemi 5.7 engine I have. I am looking for an adjustable 3 ball mount. I have 2 trailers that I tow each only a few times a year. one is a 18 ft box trailer with electric brakes weight 2900lbs empty. The other is my friends small 17 foot boat unsure on weight cant be much over 2000 lbs. I do not plan on leaving the ball mount in the receiver all the time as I dont tow very often. maybe only a hand full of times a year. I dont know what my trailer tongue height is. The trailer is a haulmark 18 foot by 8 1/2 wide box trailer with tandem 3500 lbs axles. if that helps.

Since you are towing multiple trailers with different heights then going with an adjustable mount is the way to go. Its also good to have because you never know what you might be towing in the future. We have a few different tri-ball adjustable ball mounts that you could use.

Curt ball mount # D900 that you referenced is one of them. Buyers Products makes a similar ball mount, # 3371802225. The Curt has a 4" rise and 5-3/4" drop while the Buyers Products has a 6" rise and drop. Both are rated for up to 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight and both have 1-7/8, 2, and 2-5/16 inch balls.

Since you do not plan on towing very often or leaving the ball mount in place then these lower priced steel ball mounts are the way to go. The other options are aluminum, stainless, or a combination or aluminum, stainless, and steel and require a higher investment. I have included a link to all the options for you and a link to our how-to article to determine the rise/drop needed.
