Replacing A Dexter P-29 Axle Made Around 1999

Question:

I have a 1999 double axle camper trailer with Dexter P-29 Model SLR SN 0 3293 727 / D 28 12 7 / 2800 max capacity axles. What would be a direct replacement axle for my camper? Thanks!

I reached out to my contact at Dexter for more information on this axle. I was told that the axle tag is too old, and they no longer have information available on these axles.

I very well may have an axle that will replace yours. I would need to confirm a few specs with you first. Since we do not carry any 2,800 lb axles, I would be looking at a 3,500 lb axle as a replacement. We would want to know the overall length of the current axle, measured across from hub face to hub face. The axles I carry in this size are either 89" long # T3584F-8974, or 95" long # 7359765.

I would also want to confirm the distance between the spring seats on the current axle. Assuming your axle is a round tube leaf spring axle of course. The spring seats on our axles will be at either 74" or 80" on center. We can always provide you with a few loose spring seats # TRSS238, if our axle does not match up exactly.

We also have axle-less suspension options available. If you are interested I recommend going with the Timbren # ASR3500S05. This is the standard duty 3,500 lb setup. It is basically a torsion axle without a crossmember. Rubber torsion springs built independently in each side will reduce road shock and rattle without the need for leaf springs. These are a bit more on the expensive side, but offer great performance especially off-road. I have linked a few videos highlighting this product below for you to take a look at.

I have hubs available that will work with all of the axles I mentioned above part # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K. This is a 5 on 4-1/2" easy grease hub.
