Does Flat Towing Setup Create Tongue Weight on Vehicle Hitch

Question:

Looking for some guidance with flat towing.  I am engineering a flat tow setup since there is no off the shelf solution, so from a liability standpoint,  I am responsible.  My setup:   Tow Vehicle – 2021 Ford F-350 Dually with a 42” Torklift Cannon Extension and a Lance truck camper Tow Bar – Blue Ox Avail with a Blue Ox D-ring adapter Towed Vehicle – 2022 Bronco with the modular bumper / factory d-ring mounts weighs about 5k lb.   I’m trying to understand the forces that may be involved on this setup and what ratings on the hitch extension should be for various directions from the tow bar.  There should be negligible vertical forces on the rear of the hitch extension from the Blue Ox tow bar – is this a good assumption?  I assume forces on the horizontal plane should be the ratings I need to worry about?  With weigh distribution, the hitch extension is rated at 6600 lbs, so I’m assuming that roughly corelates to the limit for flat towing.  Any guidance from your staff would be appreciated.   Thanks

With a flat towing setup like you mentioned you won't see any vertical weight on the tow vehicle hitch since there is no weight to support. It would be all horizontally pulled weight like you mentioned. From what we know about the Torklift hitch extenders and the capacity of your 2021 Ford F-350 you should be totally fine from a capacity perspective.
