Solution for Hard to Thread Hitch Install Bolts of 2023 Hyundai Palisade

Question:

I just received my curt c13427 hitch receiver for 2023 palisades. Watched your videos on install. I tried prethreading the shorter vertical bolts into weld nuts on frame and the 2 on the passenger side above the muffler wont thread. The 2 nut welds on the drivers side threaded easily. I tried to clean out the passenger side nut welds with wd 40 and qtip. This suv only has 3400 miles and 5 months ownership and dont see ant rust or dirt or debris in weld nut holes. I have only hand tightened bolts and one went in several turns and then hangs up and the rear one barely gets started so I am afraid to put a wrench to either and strip the threads. Any recomendations? Should I go ahead and apply a wrench and try gently to turn these bolts and see if they thread in the hole? should I get a new bolt of same size and thread at hardware store and try it so I dont damage the bolt that came with the hitch receiver? I dont have a tap to try and run in and clean up the threads but I saw a video from e trailer on making one using a bolt and cutting a vertical line in the threads with a dremel to create a homemade tap. What would you suggest?

This a very common problem even on newer vehicles like yours. The solution is to either made a thread tap like you mentioned or get one from a hardware store to clean the threads out. You can also try wire brushes and other similar solutions but the thread tap gets it done the easiest and would be what I would recommend.
