Recommended Flat Towing Set Up for a 2015 GMC Yukon
Question:
I currently have a Demco model number 9511010. We currently flat tow a four door jeep behind a 33 Thor mh, but want to start towing our 2015 GMC Yukon. According to specs, the Yukon weighs up to 5746 lbs. Within weight of this towbar. In your real world opinion, Will this towbar work? What baseplate are available that do not stick out like a sore thumb when not being towed and is there anything specific about towing the Yukon that i should know? Thank you in advance.

I highly recommend upgrading your Demco Commander tow bar to the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar item # e84ZR which has a higher capacity of 10,500 lbs. Unless you are planning on flat towing your Yukon completely empty, including the gas tank, you are going to be over the Commander's 6,000 lbs capacity. For safety purposes I wouldn't go that close to the Demco's capacity.
The etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar item # e84ZR is manufactured by Demco so you will notice some similarities with yours. It includes the required safety chains and is compatible with Roadmaster Base Plates.
The best base plate kit that is not only reliable but as inconspicuous as possible is the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit item # RM-523179-5. This base plate kit has removable arms which will leave your Yukon's front end looking as close to factory as possible. I have attached a picture below so you can what the final product looks like.
Some other parts you will need to flat tow your SUV are listed below along with any installation videos we may have:
Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267
Supplemental Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # SM99251 or item # SM99243 if your motorhome has air brakes
High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
Optional but highly suggested for convenience
Battery Disconnect Switch - Roadmaster Battery Disconnect item # RM-766. Since the battery on your Yukon needs to be disconnected for flat towing this battery disconnect switch will help simplify the process. Instead of disconnecting your battery every time you would just flip a switch inside your SUV.
