The only way to verify if your 2006 Toyota Tacoma will accept the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3040-P is by finding out if it came with the factory tow package. We have only installed this on one 2nd generation Tacoma in our shop and it was a 2012. I have included a link to the installation video below where they install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. If you cannot find the connector in this area and you have a 7-way it was most likely added aftermarket.

I recommend installing the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller on your Tacoma. This will allow you to use a Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-007 for a clean factory appearance. If you find the factory connector you will need the Controller # RED24FR and Redarc to Tekonsha Adapter # 331-TPH-017. Otherwise the Controller # RED52VR includes a universal pigtail to hardwire into your vehicle. The Wiring Kit # 5506 will provide you with wiring for running the brake line output and charge line to a 7-way you may already have on your Tacoma. Otherwise we have the 7-Way Install Kit # ETBC7 if you only have a 4-way flat.
