Recommended 25K 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2022 Ford F-350 DRW

Question:

The RV I plan to tow has a GVWR of 20k lbs. While this Kit can tow Gooseneck of 30k lbs, every 5th wheel hitch I see compatible has a max rating of 20k lbs. I worry about getting a hitch that has a max rating equal to the GVWR as that doesnt leave any wiggle room. The question is, would this kit along with the BandW Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs Item # BWRVK3500-5W work for our 5th wheel? Is there a different BandW hitch that still mounts to this same rail kit that would be a higher tow rating? We want to stay with BandW hitches as they are amazing and highly rated. I know BandW has a 25k 5th wheel hitch but it looks like it only works with an OEM puck system. For reference this would be with a 2022 Ford 350 DRW truck.

Typically you'll only want to use 80-85% of any item's total capacity to keep a buffer safety zone so that you never risk having a product fail. You're correct that the only Companions at 25k capacity are for OEM puck systems. B&W is a great brand and is my favorite as well, but in this case they're not going to have anything compatible with with the # BWGNRK1116-5W that's going to have over 20k capacity, so you'll have to look at another brand.

Curt offers the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16180, which has a 25k capacity which would give you plenty of buffer room. This hitch does require an above-bed base rail kit, like # C79BR. I won't sugarcoat it and say it's as good as the Companion, but it is a really reliable hitch and is really easy to assemble and use. It's also quite a bit lighter than the Companion so getting it in and out of your F-350's bed is going to be a lot easier.

If you have a bed shorter than 8' then you'll want to use the sliding version of this hitch # C35DR to prevent the nose of your trailer from coming into contact with the cab of your F-350 when making tight turns.

If you have any other questions then let me know and I can answer them and help get you out on the road towing your trailer.
