Location to Mount 7-Way Connector In Truck Bed for 5th Wheel
Question:
I have an 8ft box on my 2003 Chevy 2500HD, so far all the videos want to install it to the rear of the wheel well, if it comes with a 9ft harness would it be beneficial to install it forward of the wheel well? From a operational view which is the preferred? thanks

Some model year trucks have a greater distance between the outer fender and the inside of the truck bed in the area directly behind the rear wheel well, which is typically why you see the trailer connector for the fifth wheel installed there.
You could install the connector forward of the wheel well if you wish, but if you do, I would recommend using a 90-degree plug like the Bargman # 50-97-410. A 90-degree plug needs less space behind the bed wall.
Keep in mind that you will need to pass the wiring harness from underneath up through the cavity between the fender and the bed, and depending on the make and model, there might be limited space available to feed the wiring harness through in front of the wheel well.
The trailer connector on your 5th wheel should be plenty long enough to allow you to install the plug behind the wheel well as shown in the videos, so I would just install it there.
