Can The Factory Receiver On a 2017 RAM 1500 Be Replaced With a Stronger Class IV Receiver?
Question:
I need a class IV hitch for my trailer that has a tongue weight of 675 pounds. My Factory hitch is not rated that high. The hitch is welded on. Can I cut it off and install a replacement class IV hitch?

To install a receiver like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14374 your 2017 Ram 1500 you will have to remove the factory rear bumper along with the receiver. The Curt and other aftermarket receivers are designed to fit the factory class III rear bumper. Do note you will also need to ensure your Ram can handle the additional weight. Your local Ram dealer will be able to help you determine if your truck will be capable of supporting the additional tongue weight and trailer weight.
