Reese Revolution Hitch Compatibility with a 2014 Ford F250 With Factory Installed Underbed Rails

Question:

Im ordering a 2014 Ford F250 new from the factory. I have the option to order a factory installed rail kit. I just purchased a 2014 Jayco 26.5 5th wheel which comes with the Reese Revolution hitch but no rails as the previous owner is leaving them in his vehicle. 1. Will the factory ordered rails for the truck be compatible with the Reese Revolution hitch I have? 2. Is my 5th wheel towable by other standard type 5th wheel hitches without locking the pin?

The Reese Revolution is a OEM pin box that is installed on your Jayco trailer, and it is a sidewinder style of pinbox. The sidewinder pinboxes are intended to be used with truck beds that shorter than 6 feet, and allow for the execution of a full 90 degree turn.

For your truck, either the Reese M5 Series # RP30921 which is rated for up to 20,000 pounds or the # RP30922 that is rated for up to 27,000 pounds would work with the factory installed rail system. Please note that as with any towing system you should not exceed the lowest rated component of the system.

If you are going to choose to have the factory installed underbed rails for your 2014 Ford F-250 then a compatible direct fit application is the Reese Elite Series of Fifth Wheel Hitches. If you do not wish to use one of the Reese Elite Series of Fifth Wheel Hitches then you will need to use an adapter like the Reese Elite Series Fifth Wheel Rail Adapter # RP30156. This will connect to the OEM underbed rail pucks on your truck, and allow an above the bed mounting point for the fifth wheel hitch of your choice to anchor to.

Sidewinder style of pin boxes are not intended to be used with slider style Fifth Wheel hitches. Since both the sidewinder, and the slider move the pivot point of the trailer further away from the cab of the truck and behind the rear axle of the truck, using the two together places the weight of the trailer too far back on the truck frame. It is not safe to have the weight of the trailer that far back on the truck frame.

For your truck, either the Reese M5 Series # RP30921 which is rated for up to 20,000 pounds or the # RP30143 that is rated for up to 25,000 pounds would work with the factory installed rail system. Please note that as with any towing system you should not exceed the lowest rated component of the system.

If you would like to tow your Jayco trailer with the Reese Revolution pin box, installed with other trucks and not use the sidewinding function you can, however, you will have to disable the sidewinder function of your king pin. This is usually done by activating the lock out bolts and removing the wedge. Please consult the installation instructions for your specific Reese Revolution pin box, or discuss this with your trailer manufacture to ensure the proper process for disabling the sidewinding function for your pin box.

I have included links to the parts above, a short demonstration video for your reference and a couple of helpful articles for your reference.
