Can I Use a Higher Rated Ball Mount?
Question:
I have a 2020 Subaru Ascent with a 5000 pound towing capacity and 500 pound toungue wieght. Can I use a ball mount that has higher weight capacities Say 10.000 and 1000 even though I still have to keep the weight to the 5000 and 500 pound respectively?

Yes, you can use a ball mount like item # DTSTBM6800 that has a higher capacity than your Subaru Ascent. You will just have to go off of the lowest capacity either your vehicle or hitch has.
A better option would be to use the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
