The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75038 does fit a 1988 Ford F-150 with a standard or step bumper. I have included a link to a video to the right showing a typical installation. The installation instructions, which I have also linked to the right, state you need a drill, 1/2 inch drill bit, 3/4 inch wrench, 7/8 inch wrench, and a torque wrench up to at least 95 foot pounds. Any tools listed that you do not have can usually be borrowed from an auto parts store.
If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # 118316. I have linked a video showing installation of the wiring as well.
