How To Add Tekonsha Brake Controller To 1999 Lexus LX470 With Factory Tow Package 4-Way Connector
Question:
If I add this to a 99 Oct 98 build date Lexus LX470 that has a factory tow package with a 4 pin connector, do I need to run the wires for the brake controller and power my self or are those already run and I just need to find them? If so, is the plug for the brake controller already under the dash? Where should I look for them if they are already there? Thanks

My research shows that the tow package for the 1999 Lexus LX470 includes the receiver hitch with the wiring harness for a trailer hook-up which is the 4 pin connector that you see.
Since your LX470 did not come with a factory installed 7-way trailer connector, neither the wiring harness nor the plug will be there so there is nothing to find. You will be installing all the wires needed for a brake controller and power yourself.
Because your LX470 already has the 4 pin connector all you will need is the Universal 4 and 7-way Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit provides all of the wiring and parts needed to add a 7-way to the vehicle and wire in a brake controller. I have attached the installation instructions.
If you need a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2 # 90885. This is, by far, our most popular unit due to how well it works. I have the installation instructions attached.
I have also attached a FAQ article covering installing brake controllers from scratch that will help.
