Trailer Hitch For A 2010 GMC Sierra 1500
Question:
Trying to figure out hitch I need. The nameplate on the trailer says 7000 pounds gross weight, your hitch says it is for 6000 lbs gross weight. My daughter is hauling 2 horses in the trailer and I want to be sure the hitch I install is safe. Do I need to upgrade the hitch, or what?

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98849 has a maximum gross trailer weight up to 6,000 pounds. You would need to check your vehicle's manual to see what the proper towing capacity is for your 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. You're only as strong as your weakest component so if your vehicle is rated for 5,000 pounds for example and the trailer hitch is rated for 6,000 pounds you can only tow up to 5,000 pounds.
The trailer can hold up to 7,000 pounds but if you're under the recommend towing weight of your 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 you will be fine.
The trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation with no welding required. It has a matte black powder coat finish that is over a protective base coat that offers a superior rust resistance.
You could also install a weight distribution hitch # FA94-00-0800, using this system will make the maximum gross weight jump up to 10,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight up to 1,000 pounds.
I attached an installation video link below.
