Recommended Brake Controller for 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude

Hello! I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude edition WITHOUT the factory tow package. I have added a hitch from you guys and activated the trailer lights at the dealer. I am towing a 2 seater RZR on a tandem axle utility trailer that has one brake axle on it on the rear axle. I need help getting a basic brake controller please. I've read some need a separate wiring harness but most don't, its a quick set up under the dash according to your videos. Maybe the Curt C51120 unit. Didn't want to buy a $100 wire harness if the brake controller is a direct hook up. Thanks!

The only additional wiring you may need on your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude is a 7-way. If you only have a 4-way on your Jeep then you will have to upgrade to a 7-way using the # ETBC7 in order to use a brake controller and trailer brakes.

It is probably worth checking to see if you have the trailer connection on your vehicle at the rear. If you do, you could use the # 118384 instead. However, this would require going back to the dealer to enable the additional functions. If you already have a 7-way installed you will not need an additional wiring harness.

Also, I do not recommend the Curt brake controller. This is a time delayed brake controller which usually has a delay and only apply the brakes according to the settings. You will be much happier with a proportional brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885.

Proportional brake controllers automatically adjust the braking based on the deceleration of the vehicle and activate immediately. This brake controller can splice directly in for installation so an additional wiring harness is not necessary. If you have the factory tow port you could use the # TK93VR for a plug and play installation.
