Replacement Hub Options For Wheels and Tires With Dexter 2,000LB Axle Utility Trailer Conversion
Question:
Good afternoon, I have a couple questions. I have a pop up trailer that I’m converting to a utility trailer. The axle is a Dexter P-12 SLP with the serial number being D5665005. Are there any hubs and tires I can upgrade to that will allow me to carry the full 2000 lbs weight capacity? Would having a 5 stud hub benefit over a 4 stud? Thanks for any help.

I reached out to Dexter to find out the parts you have on your axle. The 4-Lug Hub # 8-91-05UC1-EZ you have does have enough capacity for your axle to support 2,000lbs. Switching to a 5-Lug Hub # 8-258-5UC1-EZ will not increase the carrying capacity of your axle. It will allow you to use larger diameter wheels 13"-15" if you are looking to use different wheels and tires but your current hub will support 10"-12" wheels which are enough for the 2,000lb capacity.
The Bearing Kit # BK1-150 will allow you to replace your bearings, races and grease seal if they are worn or damaged when you convert your trailer.
The Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # AM35351DX is a radial tire with a load rating of 1,220lbs per tire. This wheel has a 4 on 4" bolt pattern to match your current hubs.
