Why Is My Brake Controller Displaying Trailer Not Connected When A Trailer Is Connected?

There could be a couple of reasons why your brake controller is displaying that the trailer is disconnected when the trailer is connected.
What I would first check is the vehicle and trailer side connectors for any dirt or corrosion as this is a fairly common reason why things malfunction.
If you see any dirt or corrosion, clean out the connectors, and recheck your brake controller for proper functionality.
If your connectors are clean, or you just cleaned them and rechecked, and are still experiencing the same issue, then I recommend checking your wiring with a circuit tester # PTW2993.
With the trailer disconnected, use the circuit tester # PTW2993, check the black power wire, the white ground wire, and the blue brake wire coming off of the back of the brake controller.
I have also attached a FAQ that goes into a bit more detail on what else you can test/check for on your brake controller.
If you're still unable to resolve the issue, let me know and I'd be happy to help troubleshoot further.
