Accessing the Cold Side of the Brake Stop Light Switch on a 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. How do I get to the brake light switch to find the cold wire. I havent figured out how to remove the panels below the steering colume. I did this on my 99 wrangler but am afraid I will break the panels on the 07 trying to remove them. I am going to order the harness for towing the jeep along with a trailer light harness and other items from you soon. Thank You

I've attached a video of an electric brake controller being installed onto a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. If you skip ahead to about the 23:30 mark, you'll see the panel that is removed. There's also a video on a 2014 Wrangler that shows the connecting being made around the 7:30 mark and there is no panel being removed.

You'll want to use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, to test the wires and find the correct one.

If you're installing an electric brake controller in the Jeep, I suggest the Prodigy P3 # 90195. It's one of the most reliable and easy to use controllers on the market. You'll also need a 4-way wiring harness # 118416 combined with our # ETBC7 kit for the install. Unless you already have a 7-way on the Jeep.

You mentioned you're looking at parts to tow the Jeep as well. If it doesn't already have them you'll need a base plate kit, a tow bar, wiring, a braking system, and likely a high-low adapter.

The base plate kit will need to be compatible with your Jeep's front bumper. I've linked our selection for you. Just use the drop down to select the bumper yours has and choose accordingly. You'll want a tow bar that is compatible with the base plates you choose.

For safety cables with the tow bar use # RM-643 if they aren't included.

To power the lights of your 2007 Jeep Wrangler you can use the diode kit # RM-154. According to the owner's manual, your Jeep's battery must be disconnected while flat towing. You can use a battery disconnect switch # RM-766 to make this easier.

For a supplemental braking system, the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 is a favorite around here because of how reliable it is and it's easier to install than many other permanently installed systems. A brake light relay # RM-88400 is also necessary to keep the Jeep's brake signal from overriding the RV's turn signals.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requires. I've also linked our selection of adapters for you to look at once you know what you need.

In addition to my recommendations, I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful.
