Parts Needed to Tow Small Trailer with 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Question:
trailer hitch for vw gti made for towing a trailer I plan to tow a small boat trailer, about 17 feet long and 200 lbs. It has to be for towing trailers, not for bike racks etc. Does this mean I should go with a Class II hitch?

Expert Reply:
A Class II or Class III is always better than a Class I simply because of the strength rating of the hitches but if your trailer and boat only weigh 200 lbs combined then the Curt # C11412 trailer hitch will work just fine for towing with your 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
To complete your towing setup, you also need the Wiring # 119250KIT, a Ball Mount # C45521, and either a 1-7/8" # 19256 or 2" # 19258 hitch ball depending on what size coupler your trailer has.
For a stronger hitch we have the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7310 which is a Class II hitch and can be used with the other parts mentioned above.
