Specs:
The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.
With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.
This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

The install is a little more involved than some others, but this thing is FAR sturdier, FAR nicer looking, and fits perfectly. With it installed and no drawbar inserted, it's almost like it isn't there at all. After 4 years and 80,000 miles, this thing still looks like new after repeated use. We've used a small aluminum hitch basket and towed both a 4x6 Lowe's trailer and now an Alma 4.5x8' utility trailer frequently.
Does not fit very well. Had to make a few modifications to both my metal bumper support and also to the hitch receiver. Supporting bars on reciever were slightly bent when I received it. Luckily I have a big impact gun and torch
Installation was straightforward and instructions were clearly written. I will say that one of the bolts needed to bolt to chassis was very hard to get in and it seemed to be due to the hole being just barely too small. It was close enough that i was still able to install it. Instructions could have been more clearly printed, as the pictures were not very easy to see. The product itself has been amazing otherwise and looks super clean on my '17 GTI. Highly recommend!
A few years ago I installed a Curt trailer hitch on my VW GTi. It was the only hitch available for my car at the time, it was easy to install, and served well. It did, however, hang a little lower than I preferred and was known to drag.
This past Winter I bought myself a Christmas present: an Eco-Hitch hidden receiver hitch and installed it in late April. (Too cold for working in the driveway up to that point.) It was a way more involved installation than the previous hitch and took me pretty much all afternoon. Fortunately there are both print and video installation guides available.
The results are worth it. The new hitch is naturally braced in multiple planes and pretty much does not sway. It sits a few inches higher, so the dragging problem is gone. If I were starting from scratch I would buy both the hitch and the bike rack in 2”. My otherwise very nice 1-1/4” Kuat rack does twist some on bumpy roads and the larger rack body should pretty much eliminate that.
You should also be aware that you will lose the foam spacer that protects your rear bumper from minor damage. Not a big deal for me but for others, who knows? FYI.
Service, as always from etrailer.com , was quick and installation support excellent. If you’re in the market check them out.
Self installed this only off the instructions provided, no additional help needed. Quality instructions and well thought out. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking to mount a light duty hitch on a VW Golf.
Installed the ecohitch 306-X7310 on my Son's 2016 VW Golf GTI. The installation was made easy by the detailed instructions included in the box and the link to an installation video for visual reference. I will recommend E-trailer to anyone who asks about my hitch. Thank you.

I believe this is a weld nut issue. Sometimes debris and rust can fill the weld nut making it seem small. Heavy cleaning with a lubricant and wire brush will fix the problem. Sometimes tapping it out is needed. Here is a help article regarding this:
