What Would Cause Trailer Tire Size ST205/75R14 to Fail Early

Question:

My 205 / 75 R14 boat trailer tires keep having the same problem. At about two years the steel belts will start to separate, causing a very bad vibration. They are load range c. and on a tandem axle boat trailer. Would a load range D stop this problem.

Helpful Expert Reply:

Typically what causes premature trailer tire failure is exceeding the speed rating or the weight capacity. Both of these cause excess heat to build up which then causes the tire to fail. The Load Range D ST205/75R14 like part # AM10235 has a speed rating of 81 mph and a weight capacity of 2,200 lbs at 75 psi. So this could help your situation but it depends on why your tire is failing. Are you inflating the tires to the max psi rating on them?
