Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2014 Kia Sorento SX

Question:

Ording a hitch and wire harness for a 2014 Sorento SX. Looks like Ill use the C13152 hitch however the wire harness is between the C56332 vs 118506. Is there a way to determine if the harness plug ins on the driver's side rear are active or not. The spec sheet with the vehicle says nothing about a tow ready wire harness. Thanks

The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # C13152, that you mentioned is the correct hitch for your 2014 Kia Sorento SX. At this time, there are two wiring harnesses that have been confirmed to work with your Sorento SX.

If your Sorento came with a factory tow package, then you can use the Curt Wiring Harness, # C56332. The factory connectors under the vehicle (see attached instructions for # C56332) should already be active if you have the tow package. The factory connectors may be on the driver or passenger side. If the connectors are on the driver's side, they will be behind a protective cover.

You can test the connectors using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to determine if they are active. Have a helper activate the turn signals, brake lights and taillights while you test each of the pins in the factory connectors. I have attached a demonstration video showing how to test connectors on a vehicle. You will notice that the connector in the video is different from your Sorento, but the testing process will be the same.

If your Sorento does not have the factory tow package, but the connectors under the vehicle are present, then you can test to see if they are active as I mentioned above. If they are not active, additional fuses and relays may be required to activate the tow package wiring. Your owner's manual should have a diagram of the fuse boxes. You may be able to locate the tow package fuse and relay locations to see if the fuses and relays are in place. You can also contact your local Kia dealership with your VIN for information on how to activate the tow package wiring.

If your Sorento does not have the factory tow package and the connectors under the vehicle are not present, then you will need to use a universal powered wiring harness like the Curt Powered Wiring Harness, # C59496. The T-One wiring harness, # 118506, that you referenced has only been confirmed to fit the EX, LX and base models through 2013. Unfortunately, it has not been confirmed to fit the 2014 SX models.
