What Roof Rack Utilizes the Fixed Mounting Points on My 2022 Honda HR-V with Flush Rails?
Question:
I will buy the 12 cu ft Malone but have 3 questions: 1. Do you sell cross rails that screw into the OEM side rails of a 2022 Honda HRV? Im not sure what the 8 rubber plugged holes on side of the OEM side rails are for, or the slots on top either. Im checking with dealer. 2. Im concerned the pinch typefoot cross rails can loosen with 70mph speeds and 1000 mile trips. I want the rails physically attached to each other. 3. I also dont want to leave the rails loose while mounting the box by its underhooks. Tightening the rails afterward could be difficult to access. Thank you!

I have a great roof rack solution for you. Unfortunately, through my research on your 2022 Honda HRV, I could not confirm the purpose for the 8 rubber plugs in the side of your flush rails. However, the slots on top are tabs that can be removed to access the fixed mounting points in the rails to attach roof rack systems.
For the best roof rack system for your vehicle that attaches directly to the fixed mounting points, I recommend the following parts:
- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 46" Long # RRVA118B-2
- RCL Legs for Rhino-Rack Crossbars and Pioneer Platforms - Fixed Mounting Points # RRRCL4
- Custom RCP Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack RC and RV Series Roof Rack Legs - Fixed Mounting Points # RR66QJ
- x2 of the Rear Wedges for Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Legs - 8.72 mm # RRSUB0671

With this roof rack system, you can travel with a cargo box worry free at highway speeds. This is because this system screws directly into the fixed mounting points on your flush rails. I went ahead and attached 2 pages from the instructional manual from this roof rack to show you how to access the fixed mounting points as well as how to install the RCP Fit Kit.
As far as having the roof rack tight when you install a cargo box, the rack will be completely attached and immobile.
With all this being said, the Malone Cargo12 # MPG901 does not clamp around the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero crossbars. This is because the crossbars are too wide for the Cargo12's clamps. However, for a great alternative, that definitely fits, I recommend the Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 Rooftop Cargo Box - 14 cu ft - Black # Y07192. The RocketBox is compatible with your available crossbar spread and allows you to fully open your rear hatch when installed on your HR-V. It also has implemented locks and comes with a lid that can be accessed from either side of the vehicle.
