Identifying Trailer Hitch Receiver On a 2012 Ram 2500 and Class IV Replacement Option
Question:
I have a 2012 Ram 2500 Laramie I am trying to figure out what weight class the hitch thats in it is? Before I buy one. The hitch has no markings I can find I cant tell if its a factory OEM unit? Is there a way to identify it? If I need to I will buy a Class IV from you but if I already have a IV or V on it I dont want to waste the money I have a lot of other things I need to buy for my new camper from you. Ive posted photos on Reddit nobody can tell me just a bunch of guess answers Thanks

I have included an image of the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41929 on a Ram 2500 similar to your 2012 with a factory hitch receiver installed. If that is what you you have on your Ram you will want to contact a dealer so they can tell you what receiver was installed on it from the factory and its weight ratings. Be sure to inspect the receiver for any excessive corrosion as your truck is 10 years old and replace if there is heavy corrosion. If it looks different than the factory receiver then it will be impossible to identify without the original sticker and should just be replaced, since the weight rating is unknown.
The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41929 will fit on your Ram that came with or without the factory receiver. It is a class IV receiver with a tongue weight capacity of 1,200lbs and trailer capacity of 12,000lbs. If you use a weight distribution hitch tongue weight capacity increases to 1,500lbs and trailer capacity to 15,000lbs.
