Installing a 7-Way Connector and Wireless Trailer Brake Controller on a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz

Question:

I read on your blog on etrailer that without factory tow package on the Cruz if you install the C59236 kit, then install the ETBC7L, you then recommend the Curt C51180 wireless Bluetooth brake controller. I am having dealer install factory hitch but they want to send me to a trailer company to have 7-pin plug installed by cutting in wiring under dash and runny it to the rear. Im afraid to do this and would like a simple solution like you suggested. My question is do I still have to run a #10 wire fr battery to the 1 oclock position on 7-pin plug? Respectfully

You will have to run the wire from the battery to the 1 o'clock terminal on the 7-way connector in the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L. This wire is what powers the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 and allows you to have trailer brakes without hardwiring in a trailer brake controller. It sounds like that is what the trailer company is wanting to do is hard wire in a trailer brake controller which will involve slicing into wiring under the dash on your 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Since you are already running a power wire for the Vehicle Wiring Harness # C59236 you can use this same wire for both the module and 7-way as long as you are upsizing the wire to a 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 that can carry the load.
