Roof Rack Recommendation For Transporting A Bike While Being Flat Towed

Hello, We would like to purchase a roof mounted bike rack for our 2020 Jeep Cherokee. We flat tow our Jeep frequently, and would like recommendations on a rack that would be suitable to be used in combination with a flat towed vehicle. If possible, we would like one that will allow us to keep the wheel on the bike while transporting it.

For your 2020 Jeep Cherokee, we do have a few options for you. If you want to use a roof rack mounted bike rack you'll need the cross bars # Y00425 and you'll need the towers # Y00146, as well as the fit kit # Y06123 and # Y06159.

From here, you can use a roof mounted bike rack like the Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack # Y02114 which can carry 1 bike weighing up to 45-lbs.

I suggest referring to your owner's manual for your roof's maximum carrying capacity so you don't potentially overload your vehicle.

I also should add that we have had a situation like this in the past, and Yakima has explained that they can't see why it wouldn't work, but this isn't something they test for, so do this at your own risk.

Personally, I recommend using a hitch adapter like # RM-077-4, and a flat towed rated bike rack like # S64152-2. This would still allow your Jeep to be flat towed, and your bike to be safely transported.
