Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Good morning, I have replaced my tow car and need to set up my new tow car. I have a 07 Diplomat with Invisi Brake and Sterling tow bar installed. New tow car is 2003 Jeep Wrangler. I am looking at following items to purchase: - Hopkins Taillight Kit HM 56202 - 2nd Kit for Invisi Brake RM 987200 - the motor home has separate taillight and turn signals. The tow car has combined tail and signals - do I need to buy the Brake Light Relay RM 88400? - do I need to buy anything else for 2nd car Invisi Brake Kit? Thanks,

The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56202 is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Jeep Wrangler, but in my honest opinion it's an inferior product to a splice in diode kit like the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which will also come with the adapter cable and 6-way socket. With the Hopkins wiring harness you'll still be doing basically the same amount of labor minus splicing the wires and diodes together and there's a much larger chance with the connector pins or the converter box to fail on the # HM56202. If a diode goes bad you can replace just the diode, whereas if any part of the Hopkins kit goes bad you'll have to replace the entire harness. I highly recommend installing the # RM-15267 instead. If you still have the 6-way socket and adapter cable that came with the Sterling tow bar then you'll just need the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 instead.

The Second Vehicle Kit for Roadmaster InvisiBrake Braking System # RM-98700 is just what you need to transfer the InvisiBrake # RM-8700 to your Jeep and comes with everything you'll need for installation.

Since you have a combined lighting system you will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 to prevent your brake signal from overriding your turn signal.

You'll also need a base plate to connect to your Sterling tow bar, for this I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521424-5. This base plate is designed to be compatible with a standard factory bumper or double tube bumper, if you have an aftermarket bumper please let me know and I can find the correct fit for you.

If you don't have safety cables with your Sterling tow bar then you can use the Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000lbs # RM-645. These straight cables will slide through the channels of your tow bar to keep from dragging on the ground.
