Recommended Hitch And Wiring For A 2022 Honda Pilot Pulling A Small Camper

Question:

I am looking to get a small camper trailer to pull behind my 2022 Honda Pilot. I currently do not have a hitch or wiring installed and need some recommendations. Would prefer a hitch that isn't very exposed as I will not be towing the camper too terribly often. What do you got?

To get your 2022 Honda Pilot set up to tow a camper, lets start with the hitch. For this, I recommend the American made etrailer.com Custom Fit Class III Hitch # e98840. This is a quick and easy install that will take about 30 minutes and will be the most hidden out of all the other options we carry. It is also rated up to 6,000 pounds towing and 900 pounds of tongue weight. You will need to verify your Pilot's capacities though as they do look to change depending on how it came equipped from Honda.

With that now covered, you will want the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118760. Not only have I found the Tekonsha wiring harnesses to be the longest lived out of the brands we currently carry, this will also be a plug and play option. This means it will also be a quick and easy install.

To complete your towing set up, you will need a ball mount, ball, and a pin and clip to keep everything in place. The ball mount and ball will depend on the trailer you end up going with, but as an example, if the coupler is for a 2" ball and it measures the standard (ish) 17" from the ground to the bottom, something like the Draw-Tite # 2753 with its 2-3/4" rise coupled with the 2" ball # 63845 would be great options. The # e98840 hitch will sit at 14-1/2" when measured from the ground to the inside top of the receiver, so it will be nice and level. Once of the nice things about the # 2753 is that it also includes the pin and clip, so no other parts will be needed.
