Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For A 2008 Ford Edge
Question:
Recently installed Hopkins Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, Item# HM56000 on my 2008 Ford Edge, to tow it 4 down behind my RV. Considering adding a trailer hitch and trailer lights to the Edge for when I want to tow a trailer with the car, but am uncertain if I can also install a trailer light package in conjunction with the towed light package. Seems like a lot of connectors and modules, and not sure they will all interact well. Thanks.

There is no issue with installing a trailer wiring harness as well in your 2008 Ford Edge, as this is very common practice. These would be two separate systems that both just relay the tow vehicle's lighting to the towed vehicle. I recommend installing the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118551.
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed either within your rear cargo area or beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket like # 18144 is recommended to keep the connector secure if you are mounting it to the hitch or rear bumper.
If you have a trailer that requires a 7-way socket then you can install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 after you have the 4-pole wiring harness # 118551 installed.
If you need a ball mount kit to pull your trailer then I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500lbs # 989900. This kit include a 1-7/8" hitch ball and a 2" hitch ball. It has a drop of 2" or 4" and a rise of 1" or 3" to keep you trailer level while towing.
