I'd choose a proportional controller like the P2 over a time delayed controller, every time.

The # 90885 Prodigy P2 is a proportional controller. A proportional controller uses an internal accelerometer that determines how quickly and the tow vehicle is braking. It will then send the proper amount of braking force to the trailer brakes so the vehicle and trailer brake at the same rate for safe, effective and predictable braking.

The Reese 80550 Pilot brake controller which we haven't carried in a few years is a time-delayed controller. A time delayed controller will always send the same amount of power to the trailer brakes, according to how you've set up the controller. The amount of power sent for a panic stop or a quick tap on the brake pedal will be exactly the same.

To install the P2, you'll also need the # 3025-P brake controller adapter harness. You'd install the controller as shown in the video I've linked for you.

I've also linked to a video showing how the # 90885 Prodigy P2 controller works.
