Recommendations For Setting Up A 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon To Tow A Trailer

Question:

I'm looking to set up my new 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon to tow a small trailer. It doesn't have brakes or anything, but my Outback doesn't have anything either. Was looking at your C67JR hitch, but what else do I need? Suggestions and recommendations are welcome. Thanks

To get your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon ready to tow a trailer, you will need to start with a hitch. The Curt Class III # C67JR is definitely a great place to start. This American made hitch will be one of the most, if not the most, hidden options we currently have available, so it will have a nice clean look once installed. The install is a bit labor intensive, but not overly so and I did include an install video to help. This will also measure 15-1/2" from the ground to the inside top of the receiver, giving you good ground clearance.

The 15-1/2" measurement will also play into how much rise or drop you will need for a ball mount. On average, from the ground to the bottom of a coupler on a small trailer will be around 17" to 18", though I do suggest measuring to make sure. If you do get 17" or 18", I highly recommend the Curt Fusion Ball Mount # C45155. This has 2-1/4" of rise, putting you exactly where you need to be, and has a 2" ball welded on already, so no tightening needed. It also includes a pin and clip, so it's a one stop shop kind of part. Which I like.

The only other thing you will need is wiring. The Outback Wagon was kind of expected to tow, so installing the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat # 118467 is a snap. Literally. All you need to do is pop a small panel off, snap this into place, and pop the panel back on. I included an install video showing just how easy this is as well. Once that's in, you are good to go.
