Wiring Up a New Trailer Side 7-Way Connector on a Trailer that Used to have a 4-Way
Question:
I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado it has a 7 way on the truck. My trailer had a 4 way wishbone wiring harness the plug was damaged so I could not get an adapter. I cut the plug off the 4 way. My question is what pins do I put the yellow brown and the green brown? Everytime I change the wires I get a different result and it makes no sense. I have the white ground of course going to white on the Pollak. Green going to Green and yellow going to Brown. I have changed it several different ways. So now I am so confused Im a pretty technical person and can figure out most things but, I am stumped. I can get one of the turn signals working but no running lights and if I turn the other turn signal on both lights blink which maybe a grounding issue. any help you can provide will be great.

A wishbone harness will have 2 wires for running lights. On a trailer side 4-Way, the pin next to the ground pin is for the running lights. You can connect the 2 wires that carry the running lights together and then to the new connector. The running light wires should be the yellow/brown and green/brown. Traditionally a yellow wire only is for the left turn and brake lights. It is next to the running light pin. And the last pin, typically a green wire only, is for right turn and brake lights.
But you cannot go by wire color because manufacturers use whatever colors they want. On the Pollak 7-Way connector, # PK12706 you would need to connect the wires by function. Use the diagrams in the FAQ article I have included to wire it up correctly by function, as opposed to by color. This may require either tracing the wires back to determine the function or apply 12 volt power to each wire to see what lights up.
