Recommended Hitch for 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum That Wont Interfere With Sensors
Question:
Hi, can you recommend a hitch for a 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum? Im looking for one that does not interfere with the various sensors lift gate, backup, parking, etc. I will be occasionally towing in addition to using a bike rack.

Every one of the hitches that fits your 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum states "Hitch may interfere with the Hands-free Liftgate sensors and functionality may be very limited or possibly lost. That is a huge concern.
If you decide to proceed with a hitch, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e75ZR. This hitch is the least likely to interfere with your hands-free liftgate sensor, but there is still a chance that there may be interference or possible loss of the function. There should be no interference with other sensors such as backup and parking.
I was able to find a review on a 2020 and 2021 Highlander that reported the lift gate sensor working. You should be able to still get the liftgate sensor to work by kicking to one side or the other of the hitch.
This hitch has a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs and gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs so it will be perfect for your bike rack and occasional towing needs.
Since you will be doing some towing, you will also need a wiring harness. I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR if you do not have the factory tow package. If you do have the factory tow package, you will want the # TK74FR instead.
If you need a ball mount, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989900. This comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball along with a hitch pin and clip.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference, including the hitch installation video I mentioned above.
