Are Transom Straps Necessary on 16 Foot 1,200 Pound Boston Whaler Super Sport

Question:

I have a Boston Whaler Super Sport 16ft with the trailer that comes with it. Total weight is ~ 1200 lbs boat and trailer. It is only secured by the bow strap tie now. Do I need a stern tie down? I trailer on highways a good deal so any advice is appreciated.

From what I have found, the general consensus is that at least 3 straps should be used for a boat with the weight and size of your Boston Whaler Super Sport. Since you already have a bow strap you will want to add transom straps.

I recommend the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893. These heavy-duty ratchet straps will secure the stern of your boat to the trailer. They are simple to hook up and permanently mount to your trailer. These straps have a break strength of 2,500 lbs and safe working load limit of 833 lbs per strap so they will be more than adequate for your 1,200 lbs boat.

I have attached a video review of the straps for your reference.
