How To Run Large Gauge Wire Between Truck and Trailer
Question:
I want to run a heavier gauge wire from my truck 2021 F3550 diesel to a fifth wheel RV and would like to maintain a 7 pin connection. I notice the other plug shows that #10 awg is the largest for all poles except ground. Can I use #6 OR #8 AWG for the 12 v + on this plug?

Expert Reply:
The only option we can offer to run a large gauge wire between the trailer and tow vehicle is with the Pollak Single-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket part # PK11851 and the Pollak Single-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector part # PK11852. The standard 7-way terminals will only accept wires up to 10 gauge on all but the ground circuit.
