Brake Controller Install Procedure for 1998 GMC/Chevy Suburban K2500

Question:

Where/how do I wire this brake controller in on a 1998 K2500 Suburban? Is there a plug and play application, or do I have to splice wires? If so, can you tell me which ones?

GM didn't start prewiring the Suburban until the 2000 model year. To install a brake controller like the Tekonsha # TK90160 Primus, you'll need to hardwire the controller into place.

As a starting point, you'll need to have a functional 4-pole trailer connector. The # C55319 would be the easiest way to install one. Once that's in place, you'll use our brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes the adapter that will convert the 4 pole provided by the # 118319 into a 7-way, as well as all the wire, hardware and circuit breakers necessary to complete the installation.

I've linked to an installation video showing a brake controller being installed on a 1997 Silverado, the wiring procedure would be identical to what you'd need to do on your 1998 Suburban. I'll also link to a video showing how the # TK90160 Primus brake controller works as well as a video that explains how the brake controller install kit works.

The videos I've linked will walk you through the installation.
